Paraphrased Conversation I just had with my mom
Mom: Scotty, I think the desktop computer’s done. (yes, she calls me scotty)
Me: Why?
Mom: It’s slow. eBay images won’t download. All we do on this computer is look at ebay. Any idea why ebay images won’t download?
Me: Hmmm.
Mom: Is it possible that it’s just worn out? Computer recycling here is tomorrow. I think we’ll just get a new one.
Me: Well, slow down. First of all, we need to take out your hard drive before you recycle anything.
Mom: OK, but we can just get a cheap Dell, right? That’s all we need.
Me: Let’s start by wiping it out and installing something other than Windows.
Mom: We can do that? But it’s a slow computer.
Me: That’s windows that’s slow, not the computer.
Mom: and we don’t have to buy anything?
Enter Ubuntu. If she insisted on buying something, she’d be getting a Mac.
This family tech support guy is so sick of Windows.
